The Nehemiah Prayer Network

Background
It was about 7-8 years ago that intercessors in Hamilton started the monthly Prayer Rallies in our city to pray for the pastors and churches and for the unity of the Body. To place this in the context of the book of Nehemiah, as intercessors, we were ‘removing the rubble’ of the broken down walls of our city.

Since that time, God has done some wonderful things in response to prayer. He had called together the Greater Hamilton Pastors and Leaders Network – a growing group of pastors and leaders who gather monthly for fellowship and prayer, and has mobilized an expanding group of churches which work together for the good of the city under the leadership of TrueCity. Also, there are an increasing number of prayer groups meeting regularly to pray for the city.

Vision
Recently God has placed the book of Nehemiah on my heart again. It seems like the work in Hamilton, just like the wall in Nehemiah’s day, is half built. It was at this time of near-victory that Nehemiah experienced stronger attacks and so are we.

Nehemiah 4:6-23 says: “So we built the wall; and all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work. But when the enemies heard that the repairing of the walls was going forward and that the breeches were beginning to be closed, they were very angry, and plotted together to come and fight against them and to cause confusion in it. Nehemiah prayed to God and set a guard as a protection against them day and night. He stationed the people according to their families (churches) with their swords and their spears, and their bows. The work is great and widely spread, and we are separated on the wall, far from one another. In the place where you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us.”

For us in Hamilton, we believe that the desire for city unity that has began to grow can be increased as we encourage the intercessors ‘on the wall’, each in their specific calling and to facilitate the many prayer groups, meeting throughout the city. A monthly Newsletter will provide prayer fuel and give encouragement as well as feedback from each other. When we hear ‘the sound of the trumpet’ – prayer requests for various needs that may arise as well as prayer directives, we will blend our cries to the Lord on behalf of our brethren. Hence, we can pray in unity, in our individual prayer groups for the welfare of our city.
